Athlete Ally Responds to AK Trans Athlete Ban
October 12, 2023 — Athlete Ally responded today to news that the board governing Alaska high school athletics has voted to ban transgender girls from competing on high school sports teams according to their gender identity. This policy will take effect immediately.
“This cruel ban does nothing to protect girls and women in athletics, and instead is sidelining an entire group of kids from the lifesaving power of sports,” said Joanna Hoffman, Director of Communications at Athlete Ally. “Our hearts break for youth in Alaska — and around the country — who simply want to participate in the sports they love. We will never stop fighting for all LGBTQI+ athletes to be safe, welcome and included in all parts of their lives, especially sports.”
