Athlete Ally Responds to Cam Thomas’ Anti-Gay Remark
February 13, 2023 – Athlete Ally responded today to news that Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas made an anti-gay remark on Thursday in a post-game interview. The Nets have since been fined $40,000 by the NBA, and Thomas tweeted the following:
I want to apologize for the insensitive word I used in the post-game interview. I was excited about the win and was being playful. I definitely didn’t intend to offend anyone, but realize that I probably did. My apologies again. Much love 🫶🏽❤️

“Anti-LGBTQI+ language has a devastating impact on LGBTQI+ players and fans, both out and closeted, who are looking to see if they will be safe, welcome and included in the sport they love,” said Hudson Taylor, Founder and Executive Director of Athlete Ally. “We hope to see Thomas taking the time to learn about the real impact of his words, and learning about the lived experiences of LGBTQI+ in sports and in society as a whole.
